Dinner last night was one of our favorites, my homemade chicken strips! See my recipe for Chicken Strips and Cooked Carrots. However, for a side dish instead of cooked carrots I decided to make cooked fresh green beans. We have been going pretty strong with not much sugar in our diet, so I splurged a little. I really had a craving for sweetened green beans with bacon! Yum!
What you will need:
1/2 – 1 lb of fresh green beans
4 tbsps. butter
1-2 tbsps. honey
And bacon, of course!
First I trimmed both ends of my green beans because they were a little on the rough side. Then I placed them in colander and rinsed all of them off. Next I transfered the green beans into a pan and filled it halfway up with water. Cook these on medium-high heat for about 15 minutes or until tender. Once finished drain all of the liquid off of the beans. In a small bowl combine butter and honey, and microwave until melted. Next I poured this over the top of the green beans. Lastly, the bacon! I had already cooked bacon in the fridge ready to go, so I just crumbled this over the top. However, if you don’t have already made bacon, you can either make some or sometimes I cheat and use microwavable. This was really tasty and a nice treat!
